The Lovers...

You're on my left

I'm on your right

and my God,

what a blessing it is

to share and breathe the same air

to see the same silly clothing rack

that falls over and over again

the loudest reminder

that what was once yours

is now ours

what an honour it is

how breathtaking it is

to experience the mundane with you

the greys

to bright rainbows

the blues

to happy yellows

no matter the planes, mountains or valleys

they all come alive when our feet touch the same ground

music is clearer

colours are louder

everything smells of my grandmother's sewing room

what i mean is you feel like nostalgia

two green cups of coffee

an excited conversation first thing in the morning

about literally whatever inhabits our brain upon waking

the quick kisses that turn into lingering love

the pancakes, the mielie meel, the blankets, the dirty dishes

the tears of laughter and the rolling around in each other's arms

the movies we watch

the ones we'll make

the art that's yet to be created

the songs i'll sing to you, for you, about you...

our entire lives a neverending art exhibition

our hearts poured onto the canvas

of temporal earthly eternity

paint everywhere and everywhere

although it never seems accurate enough

"Have a good day, my love. I'll see you later,"

Not a distant echo carried by the miles,

But a fleeting whisper as you slip through the door.

Our living fantasy

you're on my left

And I'm over on your right,

We gaze into each other's tired eyes,

Smiles on our faces as our souls feel at home,

We're finally one.

Once Yearners,

now Lovers

No longer bound by the distance of an 'I miss you' text.
